OUR HISTORY

Doug Heady and his mentor, Bryan Busby of KMBC-TV in Kansas City, have been lifelong friends. It started when Doug began watching Bryan’s broadcasts on KMBC. Then came a very important day. Doug’s mom was an elementary school teacher, and took Doug out of his neighboring school for the day for him to meet his hero, Bryan, at a school weather talk. The bond was set.
Throughout elementary, middle and high school, the two hung out on numerous occasions down at the station. Bryan showed Doug some of his forecasting techniques, and shared with him what he called “The Pendulum Theory.” Simply put, Bryan noticed as the atmospheric conditions were way out of line with normal, temperatures would “swing” back just as severely in the opposite direction. In the process, strong storms would proceed the change. That stuck with Doug as he entered college to further his study in the science.
While an undergrad student, Bryan helped Doug get his first job in broadcasting. At the University of Kansas, Doug noticed a larger scale cyclical pattern, where similar upper level steering currents would occur on a seemingly regular basis. Since then, Doug has spent years perfecting this forecasting technique that has come to be known as the Heady Pattern.
